Argent on a bend 3 pairs of wings conjoined in lure
of the field (Wingfield), 2 & 3
Azure a fesse between three leopards’ heads or
(Delapole). The arms of William Delapole, Duke of
Suffolk, 1415–1450. These quarterings are normally in reverse
order, but this shield has definitely not been placed inside-out
and is completely original. Shield held by a demi-angel with
long outstretched wings wearing a white tunic and cross-diadem,
placed on a blue cloud against a glory and ruby and purple
clouds. Along the bottom is a border with three horizontal
stripes of red, white and blue glass (the white has an
undulating pattern) punctuated by wavy stars. White, ruby, blue
and purple glass with trace-line, stipple shading, and
relieving. Yellow stain on some of the stars, the glory, the
Delapole fesse and leopards’ faces, and the angel’s tunic and
hair; conjoined wings abraded from flashed ruby; argent of the
Wingfield quarters and the Delapole fesses decorated with a
relieved foliage diaper. 1440 or shortly after. Blue glass of
the Delapole quarters heavily corroded and almost opaque; parts
the border new; repair leads on the head and glory.

in a canopied niche with ruby background against a blue-seaweed
diaper, facing to sinister, with left hand raised, wearing a
plain white mantle over a white robe with seaweed-diaper
pattern. On a scroll coming from his mouth is the blackletter
text 'Nu/ [missing] /nec
: res'. White, blue and ruby glass with
trace-line, stipple shading, relieving, and yellow stain. c.1410
– c.1420. Bottom part of figure and setting missing and patched
with modern white glass; intrusions of medieval glass around
figure and at top; large opaque piece above head; heavy exterior

niche as B1 of this window, but much more fragmentary. Colours
and technique as B1, except no ruby glass. c.1410 – c.1420. Only
the head, a few pieces of drapery with the right hand, and some
fragments of canopy survive; heavy external corrosion,
especially on head.
