'Grateley Church, Hants./ January 1850/ C.W./ The glass used is thin for the period. The blue glass varies from this [3mm-deep cross-section] to this [1.5mm-deep cross-section] in thickness: - The red glass averages this thickness [3mm-deep cross-section]; the black line [1mm deep] denoting the depth of the colouring matter. It is all more or less streaky. The glass origionally [sic] belonged to Salisbury Cathedral.'
